Writing Guidlines

JCSS: Journal of Community Service of Science (JCSS)

Authors who wish to submit manuscripts to JCSS must follow the following guidelines. Articles that do not comply may be returned for correction before entering the review process.

1. General Provisions

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.

  • Articles may be written in English in a clear, academic style.

  • Manuscripts should be prepared using Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx), on A4 size paper (21 × 29.7 cm).

  • Margins: Top 3 cm, Left 4 cm, Right 3 cm, Bottom 3 cm.

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt, single spacing, justified alignment.

  • Length: 4,000–8,000 words, including tables, figures, and references.

  • Authors must use the official JCSS Template available on the journal website.

2. Manuscript Organization

Manuscripts must follow this structure:

  1. Title – Concise and informative, maximum 15 words, Times New Roman 14 pt, sentence case.

  2. Author(s) Information – Full name, affiliation, and email address of each author.

  3. Abstract and Keywords – Written in English and Bahasa Indonesia, 100–200 words each, italic, Times New Roman 10 pt. Keywords: 3–5 words in alphabetical order.

  4. Introduction – Background of community issues, urgency of service activity, relevant literature, and objectives of the program.

  5. Method – Target group and location, participants, time and duration, stages of activity (e.g., training, mentoring, evaluation), written narratively.

  6. Results and Discussion – Outcomes of the service activity, achievements, benefits, and challenges. Data may be presented in tables, figures, or photos. Discussion must highlight the impact on the community.

  7. Conclusion – Concise summary of the results and impacts, including recommendations for sustainability or further activities.

  8. Acknowledgements (Optional) – Appreciation to partners, institutions, funders, or individuals who contributed to the activity.

  9. References – At least 10 sources, following APA 7th Edition referencing style.

3. Tables and Figures

  • Tables must be numbered sequentially (Table 1, Table 2, etc.), with titles above the table (Times New Roman 10 pt, single spacing). Only horizontal lines are allowed.

  • Figures must be numbered sequentially (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.), centered, with captions below (bold, Times New Roman 10 pt).

  • Sources (if applicable) must be included below the table or figure.

4. Submission Process

  • Manuscripts must be submitted via the JCSS OJS (Open Journal System) submission platform.

  • Authors must register as users on the JCSS website before submission.

  • Only manuscripts that conform to the template and guidelines will proceed to review.

5. Review Process

  • All manuscripts will undergo initial editorial screening and double-blind peer review.

  • Authors may be asked to revise manuscripts based on reviewers’ comments.

  • Final acceptance is determined by the Editorial Board.

6. Ethical Considerations

  • Authors must follow ethical standards in reporting community service activities.

  • Plagiarism, duplicate submission, or falsification of data will lead to rejection or withdrawal.

  • Activities involving communities must respect local values, cultural sensitivity, and informed consent.
