Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

JCSS: Journal of Community Service of Science (JCSS)

Authors are required to carefully follow these guidelines when preparing and submitting manuscripts to the Journal of Community Service of Science (JCSS). Manuscripts that do not comply with these instructions may be returned for revision before entering the review process.

1. General Requirements

  • Manuscripts must be original, have not been published previously, and are not under review elsewhere.

  • Articles may be written in English, using clear, formal, and academic language.

  • Manuscripts must be prepared using Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) on A4 paper size (21 cm × 29.7 cm) with the following margins: top 3 cm, left 4 cm, right 3 cm, and bottom 3 cm.

  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt, single spacing, justified alignment.

  • The recommended manuscript length is 4,000–8,000 words, including tables, figures, and references.

  • Authors are required to use the official JCSS Template, available on the journal’s website.

2. Manuscript Structure

All manuscripts must follow the structure below:

a. Title

Concise, clear, and informative (maximum 15 words), written in Times New Roman 14 pt, sentence case (only the first word capitalized).

b. Author Information

Include full names, institutional affiliations, and email addresses of all authors. Example:
Department of Management, Faculty of Economics, XYZ University, email: author1@gmail.com

c. Abstract and Keywords

  • Abstracts must be written in both Bahasa Indonesia and English, 100–200 words each, italic, Times New Roman 10 pt, single spacing.

  • The abstract should briefly explain:

    • Community problems faced by the partner(s)

    • Objectives of the community service activity

    • Methods or approaches used

    • Achieved results and impacts on the community

  • References/citations are not allowed in the abstract.

  • Provide 3–5 keywords, italicized, in alphabetical order, separated by semicolons.

d. Introduction

This section should explain:

  • The background and context of community issues

  • Urgency and significance of the service activity

  • Relevant theories or previous studies (if needed) to strengthen the program’s rationale

  • Conclude with a clear statement of the objectives of the community service activity.

e. Method 

Explain how the activity was implemented, including:

  • Target group/partners and location

  • Number of participants

  • Duration of implementation

  • Stages of activity (e.g., socialization, training, mentoring, evaluation)

  • Narrative style is preferred, so the flow of implementation can be clearly understood.

f. Results and Discussion

Present the outcomes and achievements of the community service activity.

  • Data may be displayed in tables, graphs, or photographs with good resolution.

  • The discussion should highlight:

    • The success of the activities

    • Changes or improvements experienced by the partners

    • Community involvement and benefits obtained

    • Challenges/obstacles encountered and lessons learned

  • Complex statistical analysis is not required, but evidence-based explanation is encouraged.

g. Conclusion

Summarize the main results in line with the objectives of the service activity. Highlight the impact or benefits for community partners. If relevant, provide suggestions for future programs or sustainability efforts.

h. Acknowledgements (Optional)

May include appreciation to:

  • Partner communities or institutions

  • Funding agencies or sponsors

  • Individuals who supported the implementation of the activities

i. References

  • The reference list must only include sources cited in the manuscript.

  • Authors are required to use APA 7th Edition consistently.

  • A minimum of 10 references is required, preferably from relevant journals, books, government reports, or credible scientific sources.

3. Tables and Figures

  • Tables

    • Title above the table, centered, Times New Roman 10 pt, single spacing

    • Numbered sequentially (Table 1, Table 2, etc.)

    • Use only horizontal lines; no vertical lines

    • Source of data (if any) placed below the table, aligned left

  • Figures

    • Centered, must be referenced in the text

    • Caption below the figure, centered, bold, Times New Roman 10 pt

    • Numbered sequentially (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.)

    • If sourced, mention the source below the caption

4. Submission and Review Process

  • All manuscripts must be submitted via the JCSS OJS (Open Journal System).

  • Each manuscript will undergo initial editorial screening and a double-blind peer review.

  • Authors may be required to revise manuscripts before final acceptance.

5. Publication Ethics

  • Authors must uphold high ethical standards, including originality, proper authorship, and accurate citation.

  • Plagiarism, duplicate publication, or unethical practices will lead to rejection or withdrawal of the manuscript.

  • JCSS adheres to internationally recognized publication ethics policies for community service journals.
